VIDEO: Audience boos Brownback's proposal to ban gay marriages
At the Fox News GOP presidential debate tonight, correspondent Carl
Cameron asked a New Hampshire woman whether she wanted gay and lesbian
marriages banned. Her answer — "Absolutely not" — received cheers from
the audience. When Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) then said he believes the
nation should have a constitutional amendment banning gay peoples'
marriages, the audience loudly booed.

All in all, a conversation on our issues is always a good thing, as
our message is the one that is right. Here's just hoping that as this
campaign season rolls along, our potential civil rights "heroes" will
realize that did, in fact, learn to walk years ago, therefore making
these baby steps that they're taking towards full equality both silly
and unnecessary.

Monday, May 14, when Senior Attorney Ben Klein appears before the
Connecticut Supreme Court in Kerrigan & Mock v. Connecticut Dept. of
Public Health. The case challenges Connecticut's exclusion of lesbian
and gay couples from full marriage equality. After two and a half
years, the eight plaintiff couples in the case finally have their day
in court.

Richard Mohr, a professor of philosophy at the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign and author of a number of books on gay rights,
most recently, "The Long Arc of Justice: Lesbian and Gay Marriage,
Equality and Rights," squared off with Dwight Duncan, a professor at
Southern New England School of Law in Massachusetts, who got his
degree at the Vatican. Mohr does a great job of articulating what

PODCAST: Next Steps towards Marriage Equality
Last Thursday GLAD attorney Ben Klein discussed GLAD's lawsuit for
equal marriage in Connecticut on a conference call. GLAD filed briefs
at the Connecticut Supreme Court just before Thanksgiving and they
expect oral arguments in the spring. You can also listen to Ben's
analysis by accessing the audio file on their website.
